feeling blue?

One thing I love about DC is the houses. There are some wonderful old homes in varying stages of upkeep. I spotted this blue house on 18th Street heading out of the Dupont Circle area and into the Adams Morgan neighborhood.

ah-MAZE-ing days

The kids and I had just last week discussed the classic seed pattern which happens to be the root of this labyrinth. We had walked by this spot countless times and NEVER noticed this maze before.
We took a few moments to enjoy it ;)

Something exciting happened on the way to the kitchen

I have some pretty big news. My husband has published his very first book! After many years of writing, shelving, writing, shelving and finally illustrating in a sporadic 10 months, Road Trip with Rabbit and Squash is complete.

We are very excited and think (HECK< I KNOW!) you will enjoy it, too!

Please let me know what you think about the website and the blog, and of course feel free to share your excitement as well.

Feedback, feedback, feedback, please!! =)

The book is available for purchase and will be a lovely addition to any home, school, or public library!

As an added bit of coolness regarding Road Trip with Rabbit and Squash by David J. Billings. If you go to Google News and type in David Billings, you can see the latest press release!

Please check it out , as well as the website

Sprucing up an embassy

I'm sure it will be only surface sprucing... some cleaning and such. They are adding a new statue which is in this picture all covered up. What do YOU think it will be?

Tin Man in the window

We were walking home from Pierce Park when I saw this guy in the window of Dada ( and over priced kitchy decorative stuff store ). I thought the Tin Man wanted his picture taken, my son thought he wanted to come home with us.

STOP!!!

This stop sign is near the park in Adams Morgan. I thought it went along with Eric's risque' theme from a few weeks ago! =) And to be quite honest, it just made me giggle.

Mural at Walter Pierce Park

This park is located in Adams Morgan and is quite popular with my kids because we walk past Sticky Fingers Bakery on the way home! It is also nice in that it has lots of shade over the playground equipment, a must in the heat of DC. This park has a soccer/ football field, basketball hoops, dog park, and playground (with swings ~ a make or break piece of playground equipment, or so I am told by my eight year old.)

I always feel a sense of awe when in the presence of this monument.

Segway 2

These were just around the corner from the segway shot posted yesterday!

Segways, segways everywhere

We were walking around the monuments this weekend with some visiting from California. We thought this segway spotting was rather unusual! I see advertisements for segway tours all the time here in DC. I can't imagine actually taking one but that could be just me. I wouldn't think it would be comfortable to be standing still for so long. My legs need to move!
On the other hand, I do think this invention could be an alternative type of wheelchair.

I found segways mention in Vancouver,
San Antonio, another NON DP blog called
China Daily

On second thought, I wonder if this segway travel could be a good way to get around in cities... I believe these things are electric... I don't know what sort of environmental impact they have .. but there could be something to this technology.

Still.. in a crowd, I like to go where my feet can take me!

Tattooed beast

This one must be of the racier type of monsters spotted throughout the city. Apparently the more daring even go so far as to get tattooed. I wonder if the tattooed faces (which I rather like) intimidate the more docile beasts, such as the sleeping monsters shown here.

Heads will roll

Walking on 14th st NW, what a surprise to find these giant heads inside an otherwise empty space. They can been seen at 1520 14th St and are the work of Ledelle Moe, sponsored by G fine Arts and Metropolis, the owner of the commercial space. The work is titled Memorial (Collapse) and contains three enormous heads hand sculpted out of steel and concrete.

Pentagon City Mall at Night

This was taken the other night. We had an errand at the mall. My daughter & I liked the reflection of the lights on the ceiling.

Grimacing Gargoyle

Yesterday we were on our way to the very best bakery in America, when I happen to see this gargoyle. We were in Adams Morgan, along New Hampshire. Mr. Gargoyle was guarding a red brick walk-op. I think this guy needed something from Sticky Fingers almost as much as we did! Sticky Fingers is located on 18th street between T and Florida. And they really do have the best buns in town ;) To take a peak, go here!

Imagination

Any of you who are regulars here know that I love a good sky shot. I thought this building just beckoned to be shot against the sky.
This is Imagination Stage in Bethesda, MD.

I also posted one up close and personal shot of Jimi, as I have so fondly dub my little friend.

On a hot summer day, nothing beats the cool of the pool. Would you care to join me?

Swinging at the white house

This picture was taken last year on a very hot August day. It's a bit of a tourist shot, but more of a behind the scenes tourist shot. We happened to be out and about on the day that they invited a limited number of the general public to walk in the gardens behind the White House. My father-in-law was in town visiting from Ohio, which was really the only reason we would have been out and about sweating in the yard behind the White House!
The swing is in the back lawn of the White House and was put up for Caroline and John Jr.

Sweet Reflections

The think I like most about this shot that it shares with you a small glimpse of our well-loved books. Probably the comment most heard from visitors to our home is something along the lines of, "You have a lot of books!" Before our last move, the moving company had the audacity to suggest that we might want to get rid of a few before the packers came. NEVER! ;)

aaaaaaaah!

I found the way to escape this unbearable heatwave! I had to because, let me tell ya, it doesn't matter how many times that song goes through my mind, it's still hot hot hot.

This would probably be my other favorite place to be, especially in this heat! ;)

Self Portrait ~ DP Theme Day

Today's theme is a self portrait in a favorite spot. With the heat wave we are experiencing here in DC, my favorite spot is sitting at my little table, conversing and enjoying a quiet morning cuppa with my hubby. Actually, this morning much of our conversation revolved around daily photos and what we like about it.

And now, on with the show!
Here are other Daily Photo members sharing their self-portraits.
