umbrella graveyard

After Ernesto last week, there were many of these makeshift graveyards throughout DC. When we lived in NYC we also saw many of them. I am always surprised and more than a little disappointed that adults will just toss their broken things to the ground like that. This case was particularly annoying as these umbrellas are at the base of a trash can. Does it really take that much effort to place the trash INTO the can???

Secondly, I think collecting these discarded items and creating some large scale art would be an interesting and enlightening project.

I see this a lot after a big storm in my city. My take on the "uncanned umbrella syndrome" is that they break free from their already-drenched owners, take flight, and crash land at the first obstacle that stops them on the sidewalk.

That Ernesto was some kind of storm, yes?
