embassy of California

NOT.

California doesn't actually have an embassy. This building is the University of California, Washington Center . When I said it was the University of California, my son misunderstood and said "THE EMBASSY OF CALIFORNIA????" which I thought was pretty funny.

Now, I won't even comment on the circular thing that sits atop of this building... but any visitor or resident of DC can tell you they are EVERYWHERE. The first time I saw one, I thought it interesting... now ... no comment.

Sprucing up an embassy

I'm sure it will be only surface sprucing... some cleaning and such. They are adding a new statue which is in this picture all covered up. What do YOU think it will be?

Reflections of an embassy

I was taking this picture of my family yesterday when I noticed the striking reflection of the Embassy of Sweden. It was a rather opportune obbservation because I just found out that the embassy is moving!
The embassy is reflected in the windows of National Housing Center which is home to the National Association of Home Building on the corner of 15th & M, NW DC.

Evacuated from the Canadian Embassy area

Last Wednesday, the kids and I were lunching in the park near the Canadian Embassy. I noticed a few fire trucks and ambulances on the street sandwiched between the Canadian Embassy and the courts. The area was being cleared away for some reason, police tape was put up and we were asked to leave the park. At least we had already finished our lunch!

I snapped this picture as we walked away.

I'm assuming it was some sort of training, but I don't really know. We left town Thursday morning for another break away from the world stay at Shenandoah National Park. If you haven't been, I highly recommend it!
