face lift

This building is getting what a lot of buildings in the DC area get... a face lift. The base of this building is a Rite Aide drug store. I think the rest is just office buildings. It is interesting that this building and many near it are getting face lifts. What causes one building to update it's look and go 'modern' (what is modern anyway... who decides.. surely it's all objective anwyay) when so many new buildings are constructed taking great lengths to preserve the old face.

And do both types of construction take place merely to allow for owners to ask for increased rent?

Soon I'll post some construction photos from the historic district of Foggy Bottom.

Monday Monday

I hope your Monday looks better than his! This sculpture of Andrei Sakharov Andrei Sakharov is at the base of the Russia House on Connecticut Avenue near Dupont Circle. It was a gift of Peter Shapiro, and American sculptor of Russian Decent.

I love its expressiveness.

National Geographic Museum

I just think it is cool to live near the National Geographic Building . This must have something to do with the fact that National Geographic happens to be one of the organizations that inspired me as a young child, and continues to do so today. This view is looking up from across the street on the corners of Desales St. & 17th NW. Another thing I love about this museum is it is conveniently located in between the Faragut North Metro stop and my apartment. Knowing where the clean restrooms are located is a handy skill to have for any urban dweller... and a necessary skill for those of us that happen to be growing babies ;)

My son and I got a chuckle at this sign. I think they are saying that the park closes at sunset, but we took it to mean NO ORANGE AFTER SUNSET!!!

the redcoats are coming???

One of the little known benefits of living in a city such as the District of Columbia is that sometimes you might actually see someone all gussied up like this.
